Therapy for Depersonalization
and Derealization
If you have been searching for a therapist who actually understands depersonalization and derealization, you are in the right place. I have lived through severe DPDR and have spent over a decade specializing in it clinically. All sessions are audio-only, anywhere in the world.

What audio-only therapy actually sounds like: a short introduction from Tidal
How to Start Therapy
- 1Book Your First Session:Use the scheduler below to book your introductory session. No intake forms, no waitlist. You pick a time that works across your time zone, and we begin.
- 2Complete a Short Questionnaire:After booking, I will send you a brief questionnaire about what brings you to therapy, your history with depersonalization and derealization, and what you are hoping for. This helps me prepare so we can use the full session for real work, not paperwork.
- 3Your First Session (80 minutes):We will spend the first session understanding your situation in depth. I will want to know when the depersonalization or derealization started, whether one came first or both arrived together, what triggers them, what makes them worse, and what you have already tried. By the end, you will have a clear sense of whether this is the right fit and what the path forward looks like.
How I Work With DPDR
I work integratively, drawing on Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gestalt therapy, schema therapy, and CBT. What that means in practice: depersonalization and derealization are usually driven by a protective part of your system that has frozen your felt experience -- the DP side often shows up as feeling cut off from yourself, the DR side as the world feeling unreal. We work with that protective part directly, rather than trying to force it open. Pushing too fast reactivates the threat response and deepens the dissociation.
If you keep choosing the same relationship or making the same self-defeating decision, we look at the early schema driving it. If you are stuck in your head, we find ways back into your body, gently, at your pace.
I do not follow a script. Every session responds to where you are that day.
All sessions are audio-only. No camera, no video, no waiting room. Just a phone call or secure audio connection. Most clients tell me they say things on the phone they would never say on camera. For DPDR clients in particular, removing the visual layer often reduces the self-monitoring that makes depersonalization and derealization worse.
You Are Not Going Crazy
If you are reading this page, you have probably already spent hours searching online, reading forums, wondering whether what you are experiencing has a name. It does. Depersonalization and derealization (DPDR) is a recognized condition, it is more common than most therapists realize, and it is treatable.
If you have been told your DP/DR is “just anxiety,” or if previous therapists did not know what to do with it, this practice exists specifically for people in your situation. I have worked with depersonalization and derealization for over a decade, I have written two books on the subject, and I spent two years living with severe DPDR myself.
You are not broken. Your nervous system learned to protect you by turning down your ability to feel. That response made sense once. Therapy is about helping it feel safe enough to let go.
“When I first found Tidal's work, I felt like I had already read everything about depersonalization and derealization, but I still didn't feel understood. What stood out immediately was that he didn't treat DPDR as some strange mystery or as a sign that I was broken. He understood the fear, the constant checking, the numbness, and the horrible feeling of being cut off from reality. The work was calm, direct, and practical, but also very human. I stopped feeling like I had to explain the condition from scratch. That alone made a huge difference. Over time, I became less afraid of the sensations, less obsessed with monitoring myself, and more able to return to ordinary life. I still have difficult moments, but DPDR no longer feels like the centre of everything.”
