Not a Self-Help Book. A Real Story.
Before the therapy practice, before the clinical training, before "Reclaiming Reality" -- there was just a person trying to understand why the world had stopped feeling real. "The Floor Beneath the Floor" is that story.
This memoir traces the lived experience of depersonalization from the inside -- the disorientation, the isolation, the moments of terror when your own reflection feels like a stranger. It is not a treatment manual. It is the human document that came before one.
What You'll Find Inside
- An honest account of living with depersonalization -- no clinical distance, no softening
- The confusion of a condition most doctors don't recognise
- How disconnection reshapes relationships, identity, and daily life
- The turning points that slowly brought reality back into focus
- The journey from sufferer to therapist -- and why both perspectives matter
Why This Book Exists
People with depersonalization often say the hardest part is feeling alone in it. Nobody talks about it. Nobody writes about it. The clinical literature explains the what, but not the what-it-feels-like.
This book exists so that anyone living inside that fog can open a page and think: someone else knows exactly what this is. That recognition alone can be the beginning of recovery.
About the Author
Tidal Grace is an Honours-level psychotherapist, accredited by the BDP, who specializes in depersonalization, trauma, anxiety, and depression. He works with clients worldwide through online therapy.
Before becoming a therapist, he spent years navigating depersonalization himself -- an experience that fundamentally shaped his clinical approach. This memoir is the story he lived before he could help anyone else live theirs.
