Why Dubai Residents Choose an Out-of-Town Therapist

Dubai is a city built on networks. Professional circles overlap with social ones. Communities are tight-knit. For many people, the idea of walking into a therapist's office in DIFC or Jumeirah feels like a risk; not because therapy is wrong, but because being seen matters.

Working with a therapist based in Europe removes that pressure entirely. I have no connection to your employer, your social circle, or your community. There is no waiting room to be seen in. No receptionist who might know someone you know. Just a private audio call from wherever you feel most comfortable.

For expats navigating cultural adjustment, professionals under intense workplace pressure, or anyone dealing with issues they cannot discuss locally, distance is not a limitation. It is the point.

Audio-Only by Design

All sessions are camera-off. This is a deliberate clinical choice, not a limitation. Without video, there is no self-monitoring, no performing, no worrying about how you look. You can do sessions from your car on a lunch break, from a quiet room at home, or while walking.

Research supports this approach: clients in audio-only therapy report greater emotional depth and self-disclosure. Read the evidence.

When Your Session Actually Falls

Most people ask this before anything else, so here is the plain answer. I work Tuesday to Thursday, 13:00 to 19:15 Hamburg time. The UAE is GMT+4, two hours ahead of me in summer and three in winter.

In practice, that puts your session between 15:00 and 21:15 Dubai time in summer, and between 16:00 and 22:15 in winter. Late afternoon or evening, after the working day.

This matters more than it sounds. Many English-speaking therapists available to clients in the UAE are in the UK, the US, or Australia, which means either a session squeezed in before work or one at an hour when you are too tired to use it properly. A therapist in Central European Time is the difference between therapy that fits your week and therapy you keep rescheduling.

What I Work With

Anxiety and Stress

Workplace pressure, performance anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, and the constant feeling of being on edge.

Expat Adjustment

Identity shifts, cultural displacement, loneliness, and the gap between the Dubai lifestyle and how you actually feel.

DPDR and Dissociation

Depersonalization, derealization, feeling unreal or detached. A clinical specialism: not a sideline.

Trauma and Depression

PTSD, complex trauma, persistent low mood, emotional numbness, and burnout that will not shift.

I also work with addiction, relationship difficulties, identity questions, and sex therapy. More about my approach.

Specialist in Depersonalization (DPDR)

Depersonalization is one of my core clinical specialisms. If you're experiencing feelings of unreality, detachment from yourself, or a sense that the world around you isn't quite real, I have specific training and lived experience in treating this.

Many clients in the Gulf region experience DPDR triggered by stress, heat, isolation, or the surreal quality of expat life itself. If this resonates, explore DPDR treatment or consider the 6-session Stabilisation Package.
